November 27, 2025 - Cancellation of the National Survey on Sexual Violence in Higher Education

On November 27, 2025, the Union étudiante du Québec held a press briefing to denounce the cancellation of the national survey on sexual violence in higher education.

Alongside the FECQ, their student associations, and Sol Zanetti, Québec solidaire’s spokesperson on higher education, the UEQ reiterated that this survey was a central measure of the government’s 2022–2027 Action Plan to prevent and combat sexual violence. Without a national snapshot of the situation, it is impossible to effectively target interventions or assess the real impact of the measures implemented in colleges and universities.

This summer, the UEQ conducted a flash survey with the firm Léger that already highlights alarming gaps: 46% of respondents are unaware of the resources available to report violence, and 12% consider it unlikely they would report an incident, primarily out of fear of retaliation.

“The national survey on sexual violence in higher education must be reinstated immediately to ensure safe campuses for the entire student community,” said Flora Dommanget, president of the UEQ.
