On November 27, 2025, the Union étudiante du Québec held a press briefing to denounce the CAQ government’s abolition of the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ).
Alongside André Albert Morin, spokesperson for the Quebec Liberal Party on immigration, francization, and integration, the Quebec College Student Federation (FECQ), and several student associations, the UEQ emphasized that this decision jeopardizes the life plans of thousands of international students already settled in Quebec, who are studying, working, and contributing to our communities.
The abolition of the PEQ breaks the promise made to them of a clear and fast path to permanent residency. The UEQ calls on the government to reverse this decision and, at the very least, to guarantee a grandfather clause for those already present in Quebec.
“We are not asking for a privilege; we are asking that the promise made to international students be honored,” said Flora Dommanget, president of the UEQ.
